Tips: Watch Your Back When Leaving

Hunting Tip:

Watch Your Back
When spot and stalk hunting, you can hang out on a
ridge for hours glassing and not see a thing. When its time to exit
your glassing spot, sometimes it helps to double back or go slowly when
exiting. Deer and elk recognize when a threat is leaving an area and
will sometimes use that time to break cover and move to a new location.

Shooting After Dark - and the Coyote Factor

I had a buddy (aka Curt Badbody) tell me a story last night about a buck he shot opening weekend in WI a few days ago. He shot a 6-pointer just before dark, starting tracking after a while and continued to kick the deer up until finally it laid relativley still. At this point the question became how to finish him off? He wanted to shoot the deer once more but was convinced by 2 other hunters along with him that he could not fire after dark even in this situation, and that he should cut the throa… Continue

Hey man,

Did you have any luck for bow hunting this weekend?

I went up with my Dad to the Chequamegon National Forest in the Lakewood/Mountain area.

Sunday morning I went up about 20 feet with my climber and heard some hounds a few miles out at about 7am. Around 8am, the hounds sounded a lot closer and I heard some very loud crashing coming right at me. Soon after, 3 full sized black bears came cruising under my stand, followed about 30 secs later by 3 hounds barking up a storm.

I had my bow in my hands thinking that some deer would be ahead of the bears, but was able to pull out my video camera to catch the hounds running in the same trail that the bears just passed....awesome experience, but unfortunately I did not have the full story on film.

Saw one deer on the side of the road after dark all weekend, but it was still a good time.
