hey all. Attached is a story that I wrote before this years hunt. It just kind of reflects on my first deer hunt and I imagin some of you may have some of the same type story. I enjoy hearing hunting stories and havent really seen any on this site yet, so i guessed i would start it off. I would like to hear some of your most memorial stories. So, if you would post some stories and they dont have to be as long winded or sentimental as mine. thanks, Reed

here's one...kinda long, but yeah. It's my first bow kills, 2 in one day, kinda cool huh? It was a school project to write on and I decided to write it in a sarcastic light. Another note is this, the only reason I didn't stab the deer I spine shot was because I didn't have a knife. I know, dumb to be in the woods without one but I was. So yeah. Enjoy!

My first deer hunt was alot of fun that I can remember, I think I was 8 or 9 years old. I didn't kill a deer but I got to shoot at some and had alot of fun doing it. I did kill a small mulberry tree shooting at a deer though lol.

My brother's first deer hunt was with my Dad, and and he kept whispering to wake my Dad up "There's a deer!"...my Dad kept snoring away after giving him the "yeah..yeah..ok"

So needless to say it was a heck of a wake-up-call when that rifle went off just a few feet from my Dad's ears. Chris was practically jumping out of their blind he was so excited. He got a nice deer his first time out and we joke it might be good luck to have Pa sleeping next to you, the snores are like grunts...:)

I shot my first deer (whitetail) from 300yrds away and blew its front leg off (poor guy) he ran 3 miles and with a coyote after him. He bedded down and we finally caught up to him and he bedded into a spot where I could see any good spots to shoot him (I'm only 5'0) so my did took the gun and shot him. We went up to him and dad shot his one antler off... oops! He was only a 2X2 anyways.

Share Your Hunt Guy is failing to tell his first hunting story. He was 12 and had two bucks at 50-75 feeding. One was a nice 8 pointer, and the other was a button buck. He got so excited he cranked his scope up to the max, until all he could see was a brown chest in the cross hairs. He pulled the trigger, then looked up and saw the 8 pointer run off to the left, and the button to the right. He spent awhile looking for blood down the trail the 8 pointer ran, but never found any. He came back to camp pretty dejected. One of the camps veteran hunters heard the story, and went back to SYHG's stand to check everything out. He did not see any blood to the left, but he did find the button buck dead 20 yards to the right. SYHG was so excited he shot the wrong deer! Still not bad considering this was his first day hunting.

I can't claim to have done any better. You can get your license in Wisconsin when you turn 12. My birthday is 12/26. I got my license on my 12th b-day, and waited the 3 days until I could hunt. I had gone out half a dozen times with my dad and uncles, but this was the first time on my own.
It was about 10 degrees, and a snowy December evening. I was in an oak over looking a little corn. I had a doe and her fawn from that spring come into my shooting lane. I grabbed my bow,... but that's when I got buck fever. I so excited/cold that I my hands started shaking. They shook so bad that the arrow started clang, clang, clanging, on the rest, until it the nock shook itself right off the sting, and the arrow fell 18 ft to the ground. That doe looked back, then looked right up and me. She stomped, blew, and then took off, along with the fawn. I've since learned to calm my nerves, but I'll never forget that first encounter as a hunter.

We all have! I have never bow hunted from a tree but no matter how far that arrow falls.... it still makes a hell of a noise.

Way back when I was 14, My dad, brother and uncle were hunting my dad's old stomping grounds near Portage Wi. Dad and I went to check some public land to the east of where my bro and uncle set up. We found 20 cars parked on the road so we went back to where the other two were. Not knowing if we had permission to hunt this peice we walked in with out the guns. just as we rounded the woods to the field edge we heard my brother shoot 3 times. He was on a power line clearing and saw three deer stand up 20 yards from him, They had crawled across the opening then stood up at the edge. Bro missed all three times (his first year hunting also). Dad and I went back to the car and got our guns, (we did have permission) Just as we got to the same spot as before, we heard my uncle shoot. We got up to the line clearing and the uncle had shot a small nubbin, He thought it was crawling, but it was standing when he hit it. We followed it to a deer trail and there he was stone cold dead. While the uncle and dad were gutting it, the bro and I wandered down the deer trail a ways and sat down. Suddenly we saw deer running through the woods farther away from dad. I pulled up my single shot 30.30 and missed the one I was aimming at. While we looked for blood just in case i had hit one we found a small opening in the woods with a nice dead fall laying at one end. The bro and I tucked in behind the dead fall and waited. not long after we settled in, a nice big body buck with 3 points stepped out. My bro counted to 3 and we both opened up on it. 4 shots in the neck. My bro was so excited he left his gun at the dead fall and went after the deer. It hadn't gone more then 20 yards when we got to it it was still kicking. The bro decided to slit the throat, well the buck wasn't quite ready to give up and kicked the bro in the family jewels, just barely connecting, enough to drop him to his knees...lol I put one more round into him and finished him off. After the bro caught his wind again we found dad and the uncle. They told us "you shot it, you gut it and you drag it" It may not have been pretty but we got the job done. We were a good mile from the car, The uncle drug his nubbin out while my bro and I (neither one of us were taller then 5'4 and I was only 90 lbs) drug ours out. The deer dressed out at 150 lbs. I've always remembered that hunt. My bro and I actcually got along for a whole day.

Well in my story i didn't take the deer but we just shot over the top of it. Well we were hunting up north on my Uncles property in Ashland County, i was 13 years old and i was hunting with one of my uncles and i saw something moving in the distance and saw some shaddows so i pointed them out to my uncle and we waited a good 20 minutes or so and we saw these 2 does come down off the ridge and if i had the gun i had a clear shot of the deer but my uncle had the gun and the bigger doe was about 150 yards away so he takes the shot and the deer ran in a circle and then ran away and were like o cool we got the deer so we were waiting and from where the smaller doe went which darted off to our left our hunting friend shot that one and we heard that shot about 5 minutes after we shot and about 15 minutes after out shot at the big deer we heard a shot from right on an angle from us where the deer darted off to we heard another shot and this was off the land so we were like maybe that was a different deer so we went to try to find the deer and found no blood trail so we then knew that we didn't get either of the deer but our friend did and the neighbor got the other one. This was all the opening weekend and my uncle that owned the land had aready shot hes spike buck at 7:30 in the morning and we shot at around 9. But to get to the end of the story our friend who had shot the smaller doe it ran into a neighboring land and both of my uncles, 2 of our friends and me all went to track this deer and we asked the neighbors permission and it was ok but we waited till noon to track the deer and we followed the blood trail for about 1-2 miles in the woods and we couldn't find it.

I know this isn't a deer story... but it was my first big game kill! So here it goes! Well, after two years of rifle hunting and a year of bow hunting with no success I picked up a new shotgun and did wonders with it in the 08 duck season.... then Jan 09 I was given a damage control tag on the dairy farm that I hunt. I went out with my hunting partner Keith and a friend/coworker of his James. We rode up a trail to a field on the back side of the farm that we call Packard's Creek. So James and I took Keith's quad up, and on the way we met up with another coworker of Keith's (Mark) and he had spotted the elk herd in the field below. So Mark and I made a deal, I would give him about 5 minutes to walk back to a draw in the hill where the elk would more than likely spook to. And I would walk down a trail at the end of the field to see where they're at. I waited the 5 minutes then James and I walked down the trail. I was looking into the woods on the left of the trail, and James whispered "Justin! ELK" I looked down to the food of the trail and there's the whole herd (27 cows, a spike and a 5x5 bull) staring at me. I'm completely pinned. They spook out back into the field, I ran down after them to try to get a shot at one of them. But all I could see was their heads passing by at about 150 yards... so I couldn't get a shot. (There was a small rise in the field blocking me from a body shot) So I booked it back up the trail towards the draw, I get there... and Mark is no where to be seen. Next thing I know the herd is passing in front of me at 10 yards. I make "meh" to get a few cows to stop. Three do... one is standing out in front of the other two... I put my crosshairs on her... but I can't see anything but brown, so I can't tell where I'm aiming! I tell James and he says "CHECK YOUR SCOPE!" I was on 9 power! DUH! I cranked it back down to 3 checked the lead cow again, she's standing out alone with nothing behind her, I put my crosshairs on her shoulder and let my 180gr 300WSM unload. Now for the scary part! Two of the cows jumped up like they were hit! I watch as the whole herd runs back down into the field... one cow can't keep up and I watched her fall! All the rest of the herd takes off towards the trail head. Then Mark comes around from the other side of the draw and asks. "Was that you that shot?" I told him "Yeah! I shot my cow right here! Where I told you to be! hahaha!" So he took off to try to meet them at the trail head. But couldn't get over there in time. The good news is... When we started dragging the cow out. I noticed there was no exit wound... and a hard lump under the skin opposite of the side I shot her. When we got her hung up and started skinning, the bullet had stopped JUST under the skin, so all my worries of shooting two cows was relieved! Great hunt!
