I was wondering if anyone has ever tried bow hunting during gun season and if so how successful they were. I love my bow and I shoot much better with it, so I'm very tempted to take it instead of my gun.
If push came to shove, I'd bow hunt, but as it is, I'll do both. I enjoy getting so close to an animal that you can almost touch them, and they don't know you are there. But I also enjoy the gun season here in Wi. Usually we have snow on the ground where I hunt. After a fresh snow you get out and on a fresh set of tracks, and start bird dogging them (I usually do a slow walk, stopping often to look ahead). I've never connected on one this way, but not for the lack of seeing them. I'm just slow on the draw...lol
Its illegal here in Oregon to use a bow during gun season and vice versa. So I would make extra sure that its legal before you go out. As for success... bow hunting success is never as good as rifle success, due to the fact that our range is significantly shortened. But with patience us bow hunters can do anything!
I know of alot of people here in wisconsin that take there bow during gun season. its much harder to kill a deer with a bow and its more enjoyable. its perfectly legal as long as you wear your orange.
